Families at the Heart of Zeno

At Zeno, families are at the heart of everything we do. We see the “Zeno Family” as one team — working together to shape the future of our organisation. By partnering with families, we ensure that their voices, ideas, and lived experiences guide our direction and help us continuously improve the services we provide.

Over the years, families have brought fresh ideas, valuable perspectives, and genuine care that have shaped Zeno into what it is today. While families are an active part of daily life across our services and activities, we also come together through three key groups and events that strengthen our community, set our direction, celebrate achievements, and share joy.

The Family Forum

Our Family Forum provides a welcoming space for families to connect, collaborate, and contribute to the ongoing development of our services. Sessions include:

  • Exhibition of Artwork: Showcasing art created by supported people throughout the year.
  • Photographs & Progress Reports: Sharing updates, milestones, and highlights from activities, holidays, and family visits.
  • Therapeutic Activities & Enhancements: Presenting the current therapeutic activity programme and exploring proposed improvements.
  • Future Plans & Vision: Discussing Zeno’s direction and long-term goals.
  • Legislation Updates: Offering insight into policy or legislative changes that impact our services.
  • Family Networking: Encouraging families to connect and build a sense of community.
  • Building Relationships: Strengthening bonds between families, supported people, and Zeno’s staff to foster trust and understanding.

Many parents have attended the Forum since its inception in 2005. It remains a vital space where families can share concerns, exchange ideas, and engage in open, positive dialogue about the care and support of their loved ones.

The Family Fun Day

As the name suggests, our Family Fun Day is all about coming together to relax, celebrate, and enjoy ourselves as one big Zeno Family. Supported people, their families, and staff (along with their families) gather for a day filled with music, laughter, and shared experiences.

The day includes sensory activities, face painting, magicians, chocolate makers, and virtual reality zones indoors  while outside, bouncy castles, obstacle courses, and food vendors create a vibrant, inclusive atmosphere. It’s a joyful opportunity to unwind, connect, and make lasting memories together in a safe and welcoming environment.

The Family Advocacy Group

Our Family Advocacy Group is a smaller, more focused group of family representatives who work closely with the senior management team and directors. Together, they:

  • Discuss key business developments
  • Debate and shape improvements
  • Provide constructive feedback
  • Ensure Zeno remains accountable and transparent in all areas

This group currently includes 10 dedicated families who have played a crucial role in driving positive change across the organisation. As the group continues to grow, their input remains central to ensuring Zeno’s work reflects the values, needs, and aspirations of the families we serve.
